What’z Up Today: Christmas Eve

by ChickPea News, Whatzup

santamandolin

We know you are probably busy with last minute Christmas shopping…so…

To help you keep up with things in the news, we’ve got you a present:

A few last minute  ”What’z up’z”

1.The 111th US Senate has made history by breaking more filibusters than any other Senate in history.(rapturous applause)

Quite the feat, which is why Senate Democrats are now unanimously in favor of filibuster reform. While these efforts would not eliminate the filibuster, it would change the rules to place a greater onus on the minority trying to block legislation.

For example, all 40 senators involved in filibustering (editor: or are they “filibusterees’?) would have to physically remain in the Senate chamber throughout the filibuster process, which could take hours or even days.

2. Want to decriminalize pot? So does Pat Robertson (in case you are unfamiliar with him this is the guy who blamed 9/11 on the gays and feminists). He said that arresting people for possession is wasting money and “ruining young people.” When Pat Robertson says weed is ok, the first question that comes to mind is… what has he been smoking?

3. Speaking of pot…remember the 60’s? That was the bad ole days of segregation and racism.

It appears some folks have a nostalgia for those times past (the racism part… not the “pot” part).

Council of Conservative Christians is taking issue Marvel Studios for casting a black actor in the roll of a norse god “Thor” in a new movie to be released in cinemas. They are saying “It seems that Marvel Studios believes that white people should have nothing that is unique to themselves.” Huh?

We think the CCC should take a chill pill or better yet, share some weed with Pat Robertson.

What’zup today, November 9?

by ForeverPlaid News, Whatzup

Startling statistic alert! 66% of parents fed their kids McDonald’s in the last week.

Young voters might have made a difference in legalizing pot in California. A poll explains…

Looking forward to “Sarah Palin’s Alaska?” Check out this (cynical) advanced review.

What’zup today?

Thanks to the Onion.

Thanks to the Onion.

Getting the guns some sun. Joe Biden washes his car.

It’s open for discussion. Schwarzenegger’s fine for talking about marijuana.

And that makes one more. Maine legalizes gay marriage.

Kindleling my love for eBooks. Amazon.com’s got a new toy.

Keep up the good work.  America still likes Obama.

Take a chill pill.  ANGER IS DEADLY!

Cheech & Chong would be proud.  California looks into taxing marijuana.

Since a record-breaking streak in the pool at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, We at USDemocrazy and the rest of America have been high on Phelps, and Phelps has been high on… well…

Except for those of you who have been living sans media interaction, everyone has heard about — and probably seen — the picture of Mr Golden boy Phelps using a bong at a house party at the University of South Carolina last November.

We at USDemocrazy are all for a fair forum of discussion since that’s what democracy is all about! So, we found who’s talking about the issue on all sides, from the New York Times to the Huffington Post, to Star, and even to PETA, and we’ve compiled the interesting ones for you:

An overview of the story from the Baltimore Sun, newspaper in Phelps’ hometown
The British tabloid that started the controversy
This report shows that Phelps tried to keep the photo from being released
The U.S. Olympic Committee wants to help
The New York Times on Phelps’ apology

One guy thinks that this ordeal could have been a good thing for Phelps

Star magazine gives the juicier details of the night in question
Smart lady Kathleen Parker says it ain’t just Michael with problems!

PETA turns a discussion on pot into a discussion on pot roast

An editorial from the University of South Carolina’s newspaper, the Daily Gamecock on how the media has been too harsh on Michael

A University of South Carolina student writes in the paper about how Phelps’ fans deserve a better role model

The inevitable debate on drug laws is brought back to light in the Huffington Post
There’s the info for you… now it’s for your discussion too. Like we say, we like it when people smarter than we tell us how it is!
