America’s Got Talent, can Dance With the Stars, elects Idols, and now is in need of its Next Great Pundit.

(Question: What’s a pundit? Answer: Basically, an expert who talks politics ‘n’ stuff out there in the media — print, Web-based, or otherwise. Also, those guys you see on Meet the Press or The McLaughlin Group.)

The Washington Post is offering YOU the chance to become the newest member of their Opinions section with their “America’s Next Great Pundit” contest, open as of noon yesterday. The deadline to enter is October 1! The winner would sign a three-month contract with the Post. That’s cool.

So, if you’re into opining, politics, and NATIONAL FAME AND GLORY, then you should totally enter. Luckily, Gawker has provided you a list of how to win the contest. Our favorite tip:

Research is for reporters, not pundits. State up front that you have no idea what the subject of your column actually is.

Now, head on over there to get the rest of their great advice!

Since a record-breaking streak in the pool at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, We at USDemocrazy and the rest of America have been high on Phelps, and Phelps has been high on… well…

Except for those of you who have been living sans media interaction, everyone has heard about — and probably seen — the picture of Mr Golden boy Phelps using a bong at a house party at the University of South Carolina last November.

We at USDemocrazy are all for a fair forum of discussion since that’s what democracy is all about! So, we found who’s talking about the issue on all sides, from the New York Times to the Huffington Post, to Star, and even to PETA, and we’ve compiled the interesting ones for you:

An overview of the story from the Baltimore Sun, newspaper in Phelps’ hometown
The British tabloid that started the controversy
This report shows that Phelps tried to keep the photo from being released
The U.S. Olympic Committee wants to help
The New York Times on Phelps’ apology

One guy thinks that this ordeal could have been a good thing for Phelps

Star magazine gives the juicier details of the night in question
Smart lady Kathleen Parker says it ain’t just Michael with problems!

PETA turns a discussion on pot into a discussion on pot roast

An editorial from the University of South Carolina’s newspaper, the Daily Gamecock on how the media has been too harsh on Michael

A University of South Carolina student writes in the paper about how Phelps’ fans deserve a better role model

The inevitable debate on drug laws is brought back to light in the Huffington Post
There’s the info for you… now it’s for your discussion too. Like we say, we like it when people smarter than we tell us how it is!
