Rwanda has elections coming up next month, and several opposition leaders have been attacked and murdered. Despite this, the current president, Paul Kagame, insists that Rwandans have the freedom to vote as they choose. Human rights groups question Kagame’s statement, seeing as how one of his opponents was buried during his speech.

Just as the U.S. gets good news about the oil spill in the Gulf, China has its own oil spill. The environmental organization, Greenpeace, captured the picture above of a firefighter being rescued after he tries to fix the underwater pump. Not surprisingly, Greenpeace was asked to leave soon afterward.

Have you ever tried to re-cork a champagne bottle? (We at US Democrazy did when the Webby award results came in). British Petroleum has been trying to do the same thing at the bottom of the ocean and it seems they have finally succeeded.
No oil has leaked from the Deepwater Horizon spill since last Thursday.
How did BP manage to fix the leak when so many attempts have failed in the past? Rather than tell you, we’ll let the BBC show you (follow the link for more diagrams of the process).

President Obama (besides breathing a sigh of relief) has greeted this news cautiously stating:
Either we will be able to use it to stop the flow or we will be able to use it to capture almost all of the oil until the relief well is done. But we’re not going to know for certain which approach makes sense until additional data is in. …read more.

Wash the car… Go to the park… Oh ya, drench yourself in oil and go to a protest? Pictured above is a demonstration against the recent BP oil spill. If this were an authentic oil spill there better be someone to scrub them down with a toothbrush at the end of the rally.
What clever chants would you be . . . uh chanting?

With hundreds thousands millions gazillions of barrels of oil spilling into the Gulf (who really knows how much it is?) the damage is now spilling into the political arena.
We at USDemocrazy think it is shallow to play politics with a disaster… but like it or not it appears that the politics of disaster are getting as slimy as grade A crude. And Americans don’t like it.
A new Gallup Poll says that America is giving bad marks to every one across the board.

The Deepwater Horizon oil spill is still gushing like a geyser (more than a month since the oil rig sank).
Attempts to stop the leak are being planned… but another messy aspect of the spill has been making waves.
How big is the oily leak?
British Petroleum’s estimate has been 5,000 barrels a day (which sounds like a lot).
The situation is most likely far worse, as Democracy in America, reports:
BP seems to be refusing to let independent scientists examine the blown pipes to make their own estimates. Most experts are making guesses based on publicly available information, putting the spill at anywhere from 20,000 to 70,000 to 95,000 barrels per day.
We here at USDemocrazy don’t usually shy away from any problem. Nothing is hopeless, everything can be fixed! (Except that one math test grade…)
But that British Petroleum (BP) oil spill? The experts are starting to use that word. That dreaded “H” word.
Hopeless.
What is being done to close the leak in the Gulf, spewing an estimated 50 million gallons of oil so far? How bad has it really gotten? And, what can you do to help? …read more.
