What’zup Today: September 7?

by YourOtherLeft Whatzup

Thanks to CNN!

Thanks to CNN!

We hope you enjoyed your vacation, now fix the country. Congress is back to “work.”

Speaking of disappointing performances…President Obama’s ratings hit a new low.

Texas on fire, again. Wildfire tearing through the drought-struck state.

Feeling queasy? There might be a solution!

And, in theaters this fall…

Release Your Inner Child!

by Lady_bug News

If there is one thing we can’t stand at USDemocrazy it’s summer vacation. Warm weather, maybe an exotic location or two, and all that free time off from school. What a nightmare!

To pass the time and break up all that sleeping/eating/”resting” nonsense we decided to go back to our roots and break out some classic children’s movies that appeal to adults as well. What kids notice and what adults notice can often be quite different, so you can enjoy rewatching any of these 50 recommended classics to beat the heat. Maybe even check out those movies London’s The Times “blacklisted ” for a laugh…unless you are like us and actually enjoyed The Lizze McGuire Movie…

Want to get out and go to the theater? Check out Despicable Me or Toy Story 3. Be sure to read Amy Davidson’s psychoanalysis of Barbie if you do give old Buzz and Woody a visit. As for us? We are going to grab our silly straws and popcorn buckets for a lazy afternoon…ah to be young again!

Remember when your mother would tell you to spend your (her) money on books rather than going to the movies? If we at USDemocrazy had only listened, we might be making more money than we get blogging (a whopping $0/week!!).

That said, we’ve spent more than enough time enjoying some silver screen novelties. Here to help you enjoy some of the best of the films of 2009, we’ve gathered up some of the ‘best-ofs’ for 2009:

To kick off, Time rounded up their top ten for the year, which included a fair share of animated films. If that’s your thing, you’d be particularly interested in their number one pick — “The Princess and the Frog” — for a fresh take in classic form on royalty and amphibians. Check the trailer below:

A good place to turn for all things culture is New York Magazine, which rounded out its top ten with a few movies, to be quite honest, we’d never heard of. But they must be good. However, one familiar, controversial, and visually exciting film made the cut: James Cameron’s Avatar. The trailer, in all its blueness, is below. …read more.

From the USDemocrazy foreign affairs reporter in Scotland:

People always like to talk about the strong influence of American popular culture abroad, and I can see it here in Scotland. (For instance, USDemocrazy is taking the UK by storm! One of those really small, barely noticeable storms…)

Given my unabashed admiration for the wonders of American culture, particularly the awesomeness of Hollywood, I’ve been slightly let down by the irregularity of movie releases in the UK. Let me explain:

It’s bad enough having to hear from my US friends who watch my favorite TV shows just as the universe had intended… live on television!  But to wait weeks after a film is released in the US for it to finally show up in UK cinemas is just torture! …read more.

Summer is almost over and most folks are doing their best to enjoy the rest of the sunny weather (we at USDemocrazy are still waiting for our editor to unchain us from our desk).  While we cannot enjoy the best of the summer we hope you can.

To that end we have compiled for you a best list of summer “best” lists!

Planning a last minute beach getaway? Spend the day at one of America’s best beaches or the weekend in one of these favorite little beach towns.

But don’t go to the beach without a good sunblock…some of us at USDemocrazy had to learn the hard way. In case you’re wondering which sunblocks are best here are two “top sunscreen” lists from Consumersearch.com and Healthyreader.com. The common brand: Neutrogena.

Now once you’ve gotten down to the beach splashing around in the waves is always fun BUT once you’ve has enough of that check out National Public Radio’s compilation of hot summer reads and this list of summer movie highlights.

Why not pick up some ice cream and salt water taffy while you’re out and about? Not an ice cream connoisseur? We’ve got you covered with this list of the best ice cream shops in America.

Ben and Jerrys ice cream factory in Vermont has been dubbed one of the best icec ream shops in America. Not to mention it offers delicious free samples!

What’zup today?

by noone Whatzup

Don’t cry for me, California… This mess is your own darn fault.

They found bin Laden on the map? Huh?

More money, more problems. Obama asks for more problems.

Who cares about the Oscars? The worst films of the year are announced, and they’re pretty funny.
