“Made in the USA” sounds a little bit like a Bruce Springsteen song you might expect to hear at the half time of the Super Bowl.
Now that patented phrase “Made in the USA” is being sung by Democrats in Washington DC.
The Democratic crooners are hoping to keep the gigantic stimulus plan as Yankee as Apple Pie. They are supporting a Buy American provision requiring that, when possible, US made equipment and materials are used on all projects in the gigantic stimulus plan (did we mention that the stimilus plan is GIGANTIC?).
Our good friends in European Union (which we at USDemocrazy have learned is based in Europe) has been most vocal in attacking this clause which they consider to be against international trade law. Apparently they want some of that GIGANTIC stimulus package (who wouldn’t?).
The Europeans, however, are not the only ones whose financial feathers are being ruffled. Some American companies who rely on exports fear that this Buy American law could hurt them. If our HUGE stimulus is reserved for American firms only… other nations may retaliate by erecting GIGANTIC trade barriers.
No surprise that the Republicans, traditional defenders of free trade and opponents of anything Democrat, have also attacked the buy American provision.
