“Let Them Drink Sugar!”

by YourOtherLeft Featured, News

Thanks to the LA Times!

Thanks to the LA Times!

The list of problems for America’s schools just got a little heavier.

School systems across the country have implemented bans or restrictions on access to soda and other sweetened drinks in recent years. All in an effort to combat childhood obesity.

It’s not working.

State laws that ban soda in schools — but not other sweetened beverages — have virtually no impact on the amount of sugary drinks middle school students buy and consume at school…”

Research published this week shows students across the country are drinking the same amount of sugary drinks, no matter the limitations.

Further complicating the issue is some schools’ reluctance to get rid of vending machines, which have become a source of funds when budgets are tight.

Any other ideas?

Release Your Inner Child!

by Lady_bug News

If there is one thing we can’t stand at USDemocrazy it’s summer vacation. Warm weather, maybe an exotic location or two, and all that free time off from school. What a nightmare!

To pass the time and break up all that sleeping/eating/”resting” nonsense we decided to go back to our roots and break out some classic children’s movies that appeal to adults as well. What kids notice and what adults notice can often be quite different, so you can enjoy rewatching any of these 50 recommended classics to beat the heat. Maybe even check out those movies London’s The Times “blacklisted ” for a laugh…unless you are like us and actually enjoyed The Lizze McGuire Movie…

Want to get out and go to the theater? Check out Despicable Me or Toy Story 3. Be sure to read Amy Davidson’s psychoanalysis of Barbie if you do give old Buzz and Woody a visit. As for us? We are going to grab our silly straws and popcorn buckets for a lazy afternoon…ah to be young again!

It’s winter, which means it’s cold season here for the USDemocrazy staff.  We’re sniffling and sneezing up a storm, and have tried every health alternative: chicken noodle soup, bed rest (probably our favorite), child sacrifice, using hand sanitizer….

Wait, what?!

Yes, as crazy as it sounds in some countries around the world, child sacrifice is seen as a cure to diseases!  Most of these countries are poor and have inadequate hospitals and doctors.  There isn’t enough medicine, and people don’t have the money for medicine anyway.

Or for chicken noodle soup.

So what’s the next best solution?  Well, anthropology studies have shown that people will go to a hospital if they have the funds, but will go to a witch doctor, which are usually cheaper, if they don’t have the money for a hospital.

Never seen a real witch doctor?

Just go to Uganda, where one man claimed that in his past, as a practicing witch doctor, he killed more than 70 children for sacrifices for medicines and health, including his own son…

Why would anyone lie about that?!

Haiti is Hit Yet Again…

by Sunny News

Thanks to nhop.ca!

Haiti’s having a pretty hard time right now, since the massive earthquake earlier this month.

Fortunately, a lot of good people from around the world are trying to help… with food, money, kidnapping… KIDNAPPING?!?!

Ten U.S. Baptist missionaries were charged with kidnapping 33 Haitian children and trying to take them across the Haitian border to the Dominican Republic.

The Haitian Prime Minister, Max Bellerive, states,

It is clear now that they were trying to cross the border without papers.  It is clear now that some of the children have live parents… And it is clear now, that they knew what they were doing was wrong.

According to ABC News, children were drawn to follow the missionaries with pictures – pamphlets, actually – that showed pools, large houses, and clothes.

The children, although allegedly being taken to an orphanage, were not orphans. …read more.
