Who Are You?

by Photo Guru News

A lot of people have told us at USDemocrazy that we’re in our own little crazy world. Maybe we are, but we’re proud of it!

Well, imagine being a part of a country your whole life, only to find out that you’re not!

That’s what is going on in the Ivory Coast. The country is having an election, but many citizens found out that they couldn’t vote because the government said that they were not citizens. These citizens have to walk to registration offices to try and prove their citizenship, a difficult feat when even a birth certificate was not accepted as proof.

The Ivory Coast has a history of tension, culminating in 2002, when the country split into two because the people in the north disagreed with the government. The government was hoping that this year’s elections would settle the tension.

In an interview, an official from the electoral commission said,

The war was actually a welcome thing. Now, we can figure out the true identity of people. It was a necessary evil.

The election process have made people very unhappy and clashes have broken out as a result. The officials insist that the elections will improve conditions… but a date still hasn’t been set for it.
