Time to Break out the Champagne Club soda!!

A health care bill is close to making its way out of the Senate (despite the Republicans best efforts to stop it).

President Obama expressed his happiness calling the possible law

a big victory for the American people.

Republicans (of course) are unhappy about this bill.

Should we, the American People, be celebrating this current policy?

Nobel Laureate Paul Krugman thinks that this health care reform will provide long term cost reductions despite the laws initial costs.  Check out his nifty graph below:

Not everyone agrees.

Our free market friends at Reason Magazine note, in the video below, that this health care bill may cost more and do more than anyone anticipated.

Of course it’s not just the Government’s expenses that people are debating.

Jonathan Cohn, Senior Editor of The New Republic, thinks that despite the bills flaws it is better than nothing, noting that

Under the reforms, the government would limit out-of-pocket spending to around $6,000 per year. Combined with the premium, you’re on the hook for around $10,000 total, or about a fifth of your income.

Blogger Jane Hamsher doesn’t agree providing ten reasons to kill the Senate health care bill.  We won’t write all ten reasons; however, number six provides some interesting food for thought;

Many of the taxes to pay for the bill start now, but most Americans won’t see any benefits — like an end to discrimination against those with preexisting conditions — until 2014 when the program begins.

Now we could go on and on listing more peoples’ opinions (the Internet is a HUGE place).

We’d rather hear your opinions.  So, why don’t you, our readers, stop being a Scrooge and give us a comment as a gift.

One Snide Remark about “Cry healthcare and let slip the dogs of Washington!”

  1. mitch says:

Health care reform is a more complicated issue than just covering those without health care.

Many currently without health care are eligible for Medicad but chose not to apply, others opt out at work as they would rather have the extra money than the coverage.

The government (tax payers) providing money for health care does not mean that the costs will go down.
