We here at USDemocrazy have to deal constantly with the antics of our editors. They ceaselessly harass and brow-beat us over deadlines and punctuation (the bullwhip in the office should have raised a red flag with the bloggers).

It is with this in mind that we tackle the topic of this week’s Awesome Sites collection: Vexillology.

Vexillology is a word as exciting to say as it is to spell (and our editors are making sure we spell it correctly).

Vexillology is defined as the study of flags, whether red or not. There is an international organization dedicated to the very subject of Vexillology, FIAV. To explore the topic further, these sites may be of interest:

There also exists an organization known as The Flag Institute, with members on six continents.

Flags of the World is an amateurish but thorough collection of past and present flags for movements, nations, and countries across the globe.

In the United States and Canada, the North American Vexillological Association is a useful resource for all things flags.

The World Flag Database provides yet another resource on the topic of flags.

Though not formally a site about flags, a look around WorldStatesmen.org offers a great glympse into the banners of the past.
