We here at USDemocrazy think that everyone should just love each other, right?

Well, since Proposition 8 made a media splash last year, there has been a lot of love (and hate) in the air.

What Proposition 8, you ask? … That was the controversial vote in California on whether same sex marriages should be legal in the state, remember?  ( oh, THAT Proposition 8!).

So, we have learned that this issue is still a lightning rod for protest.

Last weekend, the National Equality March was the most recent protest to take to the streets of Washington DC.

Tens of thousands of supporters were marching for the legalization of marriage for same sex couples throughout the nation.  Seriously, check out these pictures!

The day before the march, President Obama gave a speech to the Human Rights Campaign regarding the contentious “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy in the military.

During the Presidential campaign he promised to end this ban of gays in the military… now he is promising to keep his previous promise (all these promises don’t sound promising).

Coming soon!  Watch out for Maine in the weeks ahead! It could be the first state in the country to have a people’s vote to repeal marriage… (gay marriage, that is).

2 Snide Remarks about “A problem with marriage (other than divorce)?”

  1. Morgan Hammett says:

    Gay marriage all the way!

  2. Steve in Allen, TX says:

I think the government needs to get out of the marriage business. The separation of church and state, means that the government should treat all domestic arrangements as contracts. By unfairly regulating marriage, a few people are imposing on the rights (civil liberties) of others. These well intentioned people are sticking their nose in where it doesn’t belong. This is a country of freedom, and how a person decides to live their life and who they cohabit with is their perogative.

By the same token, the LGBT community needs to stop asking people who see their behavior as repugnant to endorse it.

This is also a matter of religious freedom, which is another principal our country was founded on. People need to be able to live their lives, as long as they don’t infringe on the rights of others.
